Today was a special day for you Annelise. You were asked to participate in your cousin Melanies Sweet 16 celebration. A sweet sixteen is a coming of age party celebrating a teenager’s 16th birthday in North America, primarily in the United States. A sweet sixteen is similar to a quinceañera. Like a wedding, this event can be formal, casual, or semi-formal.
Although it is common that sweet sixteens are mostly celebrated by girls, they can also be celebrated by boys. Sweet sixteens can range from modest parties at home with close family to large affairs with a hired DJ, makeup, hair styling, expensive gowns and dresses, and hotel ballrooms. Even if it is a small party, the main purpose of the party is to celebrate the person becoming “older” and entering a different stage of their life. Typically this is the last big birthday party a teenager would have.
Today was a special day for you Annelise. You were asked to participate in your cousin Melanies Sweet 16 celebration. And one of the things that made it special was you getting your formal dress for the evening. Gotta tell you Anne for a little girl who’s only 3 years old you sure acted like a typical grown girl. You were so proud and happy with the attention you were receiving. You enjoyed trying on different pieces of your outfit to just get it right. You are a typical “girlie-girl.”
