Dad:

To my two beautiful children Annelise and Tyler. What can I say? Every time I think of one of you or the both of you my reaction is……WOW! Nothing in this life has impacted me more than the two of you. I can honestly say that all the experiences I have had be it love, anger, sorrow, regret, envy, happiness nothing compares to the Love I have for you. You two have brought me so much joy you cannot possibly fathom how I feel.

Let me leave you with a quote from a unknown author:

To My Child….
When I tell you I love you,
I don’t say it out of habit or to
Make conversation. I say it to remind
you that you’re the best thing that ever
happened to me.

That being said let me tell you a little bit about me. First, my name. Im sure by the time you’re reading this you know my name. Its Tom or some people call me Tommy. I was born in February of 1973 to my parents Maria and Richard Markiewicz. Both my parents were born in Lezajsk, Poland located in the Southeastern part of Poland. Lezajsk is famed for its Bernadine Basillica and monastery built by architect Antonio Pellacini. The basilica contains a highly regarded pipe organ from the second half of the 17th century. It stands as one of Poland’s official national Historic Monuments. I remember as a child growing up my parents always talking about this basilica and how grand it was. I actually had the privilege of visiting my parents town when I was 17 years old. I can tell you this…it was one of the most magnificent architectural monuments I have ever visited.

The immigration to America is somewhat odd. So my great-grandfather came to America in the early 1900’s and when he was here he worked many construction jobs to make money to send back to his family in Poland. While here my grand-father Frank was born which made him first generation American. Frank eventually went back to Poland as a toddler and returned back when he was in his 40’s. My grandfather was born is August 20, 1918.

Frank returned to New York with my grandmother Sofia Markiewicz they bought a house in Maspeth Queens and lived near Holy Cross Church which was our parish. My father Richard came here when he was 11 and attended the same grammer school I did which was Holy Cross School. My father then attended Aviation High School located in Long Island City, NY. My father never went to college. He held odd jobs here and there. One of his first businesses was a “body-shop.” Here my dad repaired vehicles after they sustained structural damage after a collision. From what I can remember back in my childhood I do remember him having a job with Avis. Avis was a car rental company. My father than started working for company named AEG. AEG was a german power tool company. He ran the store and was the repairman for any tools that needed to be serviced. After a few years he opened his own store which was named Electric Power Tool, Inc. My mom, Maria, she worked for AT&T as a maintenance employee. I have to say my mom and dad were very hard workers and they did everything to make my life better then their own.

So when I was born we lived with my fathers parents in their home on the second floor. When I was child I attended P.S.153 as a student in Kindergarten. I then attended the same grammar school as my father which was Holy Cross in Maspeth, Queens. I was there from grade 1 through 8. Graduating I entered Martin Luther High School in Maspeth. After High School I was a little lost and didn’t know what I really wanted to do with myself so I attended Queensborough Community College. After wasting a years time there I took my education seriously and enrolled to John Jay College of Criminal Justice. At the end of my tenure at John Jay I joined the New York City Police Department and became a Police Officer. Yes! Your daddys a “cop” by the time you read this I will be retired but nevertheless. I was a police officer in Brooklyn, Bushwick Brooklyn. I was there for 13 years until I was transferred to one of the most elite units of the police department where I retired from.
